The Bodies Of Maleesa Mooney & Nichole Coats Were Uncovered In The Same Neighborhood
KTLA reports that Coatsâ family uncovered her dead body on Sept. 10. Itâs noted that Coats, 32, had previously discussed preparing to go out on a date set for Sept. 8, and thatâs the last that her family heard from her.
When her father and one of her aunts, May Stevens, dropped by her apartment a couple of days later, they discovered a gruesome scene in Nichole Coatsâ bedroom, according to KTLA.
âI couldnât recognize her. I believe it was murder, I really do. One of her legs was up in the air in a kicking position. Thatâs not somebody who just laid in their bed and died.â
A mere two days later, the body of Maleesa Mooney, 31, was discovered in her apartment. Her family hadnât heard from her since returning from a Miami trip on Sept. 6, and the situation was uncovered during a welfare check.
According to a statement that Mooneyâs sister sent The Shade Room, authorities discovered Mooneyâs apartment was flooded and had the air conditioning on full-blast. She also alleged that authorities took three days to finish investigating the crime scene.
As a result of the similarities between the two cases, CBS News reports that one of Coatsâ aunts, Linda St. Clair, expressed feeling as though theyâre ârelated.â
âThat scared us all, because now we feel that itâs related. [Maleesa] wasnât far from where Nichole lived and they were the same age bracket and she was a model.â
However, itâs important to note that authorities havenât confirmed whether the cases are linked.
2 models have been found dead in DTLA apartments in the last week. On Sep 10th, Nichole Coats was found dead at 8th and Grand. On Sep 12, Maleesa Mooney was found dead at 200 S Fig. Coats’ death is being treated as “suspicious” and Mooney’s death is being treated as a homicide.
